1 LENTONS LANE
FRISKNEY, BOSTON PE22 8RR E-mail: Brendan - 2EØBDS The Dambusters Rally went very well indeed. The number of stalls and punters was considerable - up two-fold on last year. In fact a friend of mine who had a stall said to me “I could have bagged up sand and they would have bought it.” Needless to say he was pleased with the turn out. The weather was unsettled, sunshine, rain, and very windy. The RSARS Stand was set up and John MØRRA and I were pleased with the presentation, and the colours flew very well in the wind for all to see. Below are a few photo`s of the Stand. Members of RSARS were very low on the ground, with only five members in the book including us, but on the positive side there were a lot of people coming over for a general natter. As I have mentioned, the weather was windy, infact very windy (you might know where I am going) and the gusts of wind became more frequent and the intensity increased also........ the gazebo suddenly lifted 6 feet off the ground and flew across the Show Ground, coming to rest upside down. Wasn`t funny at the time from our point of view, but I can sit back and see the funny side now. If I had a camcorder with me, “You`ve Been Framed” would have been the destination of its content. Anyway, we were lucky - there were a number of fellow hams who had congregated around our Stand and with their help we brought the low-flying gazebo under control very quickly and back to its original resting place once more. With the gazebo tied down with extra guys and pegs we dusted ourselves off and made the Stand look presentable. However, the wind persisted and took the gazebo yet again - lifting it 2 feet of the ground. No number of pegs and rope could keep it down. John and I stood there holding the posts and canopy for what felt like hours but in reality it was about 10 minutes, trying to keep the gazebo in place with no luck. Our gazebo was determined to be the only one in the Show Ground levitating. Finally, and disappointingly, we made the decision to pack away the gazebo and the display items. It was about 11:30 by this time so we managed to have a good run. With everything packed away John and I sat down and had a well-earned coffee break. The remainder of the Rally was spent looking around all the stalls, and spending a few bob. John picked up a little bargain, and I did also. The whole day was, after taking everything into consideration, very enjoyable. It was a complete honour to have represented RSARS at The Dambusters Rally, and we thank the members for allowing us to do so. In spite of the experience we had, we would do it all again given the chance. The list of members who signed the book:- 2EØBDS-3991 MØRRA-3947 GØFSQ-3017 G3PWK-0495 G4UNZ-2097 Best regards to all and we hope you too enjoyed the Bank holiday. Brendan 2EØBDS and John MØRRA |
