IPS is a unit of the Department of Industry Science and Resources, part of the Australian Government. IPS
provides the Australian radio propagation and space environment services.
Their Web Site has HF RADIO AND SPACE WEATHER REPORTS and HF Prediction Services of considerable value to radio amateurs as well as professional users. If you require HF predictions for a given day between two, say amateur radio stations, be sure to have the approximate latitude and longitude of their locations handy when accessing the request: "London - Adelaide" is usually sufficient input type for amateur purposes. The information given includes distance as well as beam headings and time/frequency data. The response is very rapid and proves of immense use in practice particularly for the avid DX or Award chasers.
If you prefer to have your own onboard prediction facility we recommend W6ELProp : this predicts ionospheric (sky-wave) propagation between any two locations on the earth on frequencies between 3 and 30 MHz. There is no charge for W6ELProp when used for non-commercial purposes. You can download this program from Sheldon's site.
And NASA scientists come to our aid with SPACE WEATHER NEWS which includes SOHO coronagraphic clues to immediately forthcoming auroral activity, the Sun "as is" updated and with all essential solar data (including a graphic showing current sunspots etc.) - a veritable feast of Science news and information about the Sun-Earth environment from probably the best agency on this planet.
The NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION is a vital place to visit for all concerned with or even remotely interested in Space Weather Alerts, Warnings and Forecasts - all provided in complete, fully illustrated, up-to-date detail. There is an excellent Radio User Group and full search facilities on this site.
