ELEMENTS OF CANADA
Whilst on a two week tour of Canada and visiting The Butchart Gardens, Benvenuto Avenue, Brentwood Bay, Vancouver Island, British Columbia G4LWB saw "Jimmy" enjoying the sunshine of a late Summer 2006 and sent this picture to us.
We are delighted to make this addition to the Candid Canada Collection - Terry VA3TRM [RSARS 3858] of Kingston, Ontario {who also signs VE3RCS and VA3SIG} with Karen his xyl. Picture taken on the important day of 11th November 2006.
Whilst London simmered at 60º Fahrenheit during the first week of
1999 (and remember it was Winter in the United Kingdom!) you can imagine how Dave VE7VF felt when you study this shot of his QTH - to emphasise the "elements" - in Vancouver taken the same week.
(Remember clix brings bigger pix where we use thumbnails)
Indoors however, and in his radio shack all was cosy and he was able to contact fellow Member of RSARS Eric, G3LPS. Eric and his wife Dorothy paid a visit to Vancouver in the Summer of 1999 and are seen here (on the right of picture) with David's wife Pam (VE7PMF) and Dave, enjoying the sunshine and much ragchewing.
Elsewhere in the great country Dick, G3NVK is on the Athabascar Glacier having a change from the heat of the MERCURY Editorial Office, whilst his wife Jo heads through the forest for Spirit Island.
You can read their whole Rockies Trek story on this site in the extract from
"Law & Disorder - a perhaps jaundiced view of 50 years in the Legal Profession"
by Dick, G3NVK.

How many Wireless Set No. 19 were born and bred in Canada? The first came off the production lines of Canadian MARCONI Co., RCA Victor Company and the Northern Electric Company in January 1942, designed by Pye Radio originally, these Sets were an improved version. The history of this piece of equipment continues to the present day and you can learn much and get deeply involved by visiting THE WIRELESS SET No.19 GROUP - a veritable gold mine of pleasure for the many of us who have at one time or another been involved with the item. Chris, VE3CBK/RSARS 1940 is one of our Members active in the very enthusiastic team.

So says the town guide for Brighton, Ontario and it is there that our Member Frank Corser RSARS 3652 lives with his wife Freda. If you want to learn more of his environs and are too far away to drop in on them visit through this link.
If they are in you may find Frank at his computer as seen below..........
when he's cleared the snow (Remember? "You don't have to shovel rain!")
......but should they be away

...maybe they're sunseeking!
In this connection a new venture for Frank, and details and pictures of his adventures - visit the developing pages of Frank Corser, RSARS 3652.
"Pretty messy Ham Shack, but I just moved. It will improve" so says Wayne VE3JSQ as he invites us to take a look at the interior of the new location as pictured by a friend who "just happened to drop by, carrying his Sony digital camera". We are pleased he did and hope the forthcoming Spring permits excursions into the new area.

Signing as VE3AHZ from Richmond, Ontario is Jack Tennant - you may have worked him under one or other of his previous callsigns VE3DAF, VE3FFW/SU, VE6ARX, VE2BWG, VE4AI, VO1BK and F/VE3AHZ.
His wife Phyllis was a wartime switchboard operator at the Bournemouth GPO and still has siblings living in the area.
Jack and Phyllis are pictured below when they were guests at the French Embassy in Ottawa on 14th July 1999 celebrating the 55th Anniversary of D-Day (or as our Allies say - Levons nos verres en l'honneur du débarquement du 6 juin 1944).

The very mention of the Bow River, its Falls and Banff Springs bring a tingle to the spine of your Editor and many others so it was a pleasure to receive this photograph.
It is our Member Jim, GMØHZM
And there's a bonus - Jim has launched his own Home Pages on the Internet and yes, the site covers his trip to Western Canada as well as his considerable experiences with the Territorial Army and, of course, Amateur Radio. We are certain you will much enjoy visiting and sharing with him.
