My that was a weekend, that was! Beautiful weather after all that rain - just look at the pictures.
The Military Odyssey at the Kent County Showground, Detling near Maidstone was certainly the place to be - as a good number of members also seemed to think. Society stores sales were well up, though membership sign-up's were not - BUT one cannot have everything.THE MILITARY ODYSSEY per se has a Web presence at: http://www.military-odyssey.com/ The number of ex-Corps members coming to have a look at the working Royal Signals display was really very encouraging and some of the stories very interesting. Has anybody heard of an 1150 receiver? - well this chap built them in Scotland he told us. I think we need to rebrand to the RSA, as this was the level of many visitors interest! Surprisingly perhaps, a large number of "linies" and a number of currently serving, including a Yeoman of Signals who had actually heard of RSARS - most of the others had not - so the seed has been set, for somebody else to fertilise with a Foundation Licence. One visitor had operated the amateur station from Aden and took away an application form. (Do they come back, Memsec?) So, if you missed the opportunity this time you have another chance on Sunday 2nd September, at Fort Newhaven in Sussex, where we are attending the Radio Weekend and Sale by the FNARS. Get there early to pick up a bargain. Our real requirement is for members to come and help operate these displays, talking to the public is one thing, but you cannot be operating at the same time!
