The SOE SOLENT OVERLORD Show, a Military Vehicle Spectacular

The RSARS Special Event station GB2SOE did make it, and did get set up, and did make some contacts, though not as many as hoped for. 80m seemed to be the best band in the evenings - maybe Members don't get up at 6 or 7am for the 20m possibilities of a contact?
This time we started out with a wonderful warm day on Friday, only a small number of visitors came round so this gave us the chance to operate and prove everything ready for Friday evening and the main operating over the Bank Holiday weekend. (Being allocated a space almost under the overhead power lines did not help much - does getting a slight tingling from the coaxial aerial plug give any clues as to what was going on?).
Saturday was another wonderful, hot day, despite the gale, and with a great number of ex-Royal Signals visitors we had a busy time. They all wanted to tell how they had operated a 19-Set - one went on about the No.10 Set, so that took me back a bit!
Sunday continued the trend after overnight rain and a quick dry out, but MONDAY! (Don't talk about it - rain, rain and more RAIN until 3pm, then it cleared up, thus giving a us an opportunity to close down in the dry).

GB2SOE had a good time operating on Monday from the dry Landrover, with no visitors to be bothered about - wonder why? It was good to make contact with a few local Members and to take on board one new one who recalled his NS and TA days of long ago.

Hopefully see you at the THE WAR AND PEACE SHOW (Wednesday 16th to Sunday 20th July 2008) at Hop Farm. Beltring in Kent, and for operation of GB2WP
NOW WE NEED JUST A FEW HELPFUL OPERATORS TO GET THE STATION ON THE AIR. Surely an RSARS member or 5 live near Maidstone/Tonbridge or recall the Mereworth Woods Training Area or in its earlier life Ammunition Store? To me, this is what it is all about - getting out there and showing people what we do best - COMMUNICATING!
