NEWHAVEN FORT Radio Rally and Vintage Military Vehicle Display

Well the Champ (67BE99 if any member recalls it?) went on its merry way, with the Society Stores table, to Newhaven Fort in sunny Sussex. The weather started out poor, getting even worse, but finished up very nice and warm around midday when the new Newhaven Fort Radio station was officially opened, way up on the hill above our heads.

Not the largest of Rallies, although we did have one member sign in. The organisers seemed rather disappointed as, indeed, was the Southern representative! I had been promised by a number of people that they would come along and get a vintage radio and vehicle display together - actually two more came with interesting variations of the 19-Set. The one in a Champ - see picture - is a new one on the rally scene and the general thoughts were that the white labels did nothing for it and that it was probably a Norwegian one! (Better or different ideas to Mike please). The second one in a Jeep was of the Italian variety, (refurbished post=war) and both were said to be working.

The rally stalls were seemingly down on previous years, though it was good to see an old friend in the form of GWM (now we must all remember them!) of Worthing, still active. Quite a number of older amateur radios were for sale and the usual bits and bobs, though nothing very special.

Onwards again - GATWICK RADIO next weekend (8/9 September), at Hunters Moon on the A217, Southern End by Gatwick. This really is a vintage radio weekend with a BBQ on Saturday evening. No entry charge, so why not come in and give everybody the benefit of YOUR advice? Bring a vintage radio and or a military vehicle. There may be some small trading activity between those attending, though no trade stalls.
