No, not an "Unlucky 13" edition, on the contrary the Bureau has shown a wee bit of activity again thanks to our Uganda-bound traveller and new/newly active members John G1STL, Vic G6DIF and Ron MØMSN/P from his ex-Army vehicle. I make no excuses for combining my Bureau report with an update on Net activities for without such activities there would be no Bureau activity so, for the need of a better explanation, they tend to be joined at the hip. Vic G6DIF certainly had his baptism of fire as far as Nets go, being worked by 15 members on the afternoon of 25th March and 12 during evening of the same day. He did exceedingly well in keeping up with the pace and certainly added a buzz of activity to both gatherings. John and Ron also added enjoyment for us and to their credit, cards and stamps are already sorted. I cannot ignore the arrival of our newest permanent Affiliated station in the guise of GØRCS / F023 which is now held on behalf of the Society by Ian G8OFZ. Thanks must be in order for Sam G4OHX for the suggestion; Ian G8OFZ for doing the hard work with Ofcom (Office of Communications) in getting it sorted, Ofcom itself for giving a great - very rapid response - service in authorising it and George G3VBE MemSec for making it RSARS official. Also advised 28 March is G4CCF / F054 which is under the firm control of Sam G4OHX. One-sided activity in respect of QSL cards please - (as with G3SIG) - cards are not required for exchanges made with GØRCS or G4CCF, but cards will be sent by them to members via the Bureau. So if you work G3SIG, GØRCS or G4CCF no cards are required from you but make sure that you do have stamps lodged with the Bureau or the cards from Sam and Ian go nowhere! How's that for a subtle hint? May Anniversary Activity This has been covered by Mike GØSWY the Awards Manager in "MERCURY" which will be with us all early April but I will give a reminder and a plea. May 2007 was my first May Anniversary Activity on taking over the Bureau in April of that year and it was really great to hear the enthusiastic exchanges during the month. It was even more enjoyable when cards starting rolling in during June making the month the busiest of the year. However the fact that a number of cards had to be returned to sender was not so good. Although conditions are still not good (yes prone to understatement as usual!) I do anticipate a wee bit of additional Bureau activity. Please - when making exchanges with no intention of using the Bureau do make this known. Also before sending cards to the Bureau, if you are able to do so, please check the latest list of 'Members with stamps in the Bureau' because if the station you have worked is not listed as a Bureau user you will receive your own card back with your next batch. I will remind members again in Newsletter 14 but for now please remember no stamps in the Bureau means you are not a Bureau member - it is as simple as that. 5 x 2nd Class postage stamps to me will get you listed and I will do the rest. To the statistics which you may, or may not, find to be of interest? Statistics
For the "new" members reading this we look forward to hearing you all on Nets this year and please don't worry about being chased for points all of the time - very soon you may be like many of us - merely waiting patiently for the next "new one" to come along. We look forward to saying hello. All Nets with current start times and frequencies (the latter plus or minus QRM/QRN) are in SHACK AID in March 2008 "MERCURY" and displayed on the Society website as well as being available for download from there. 73, Bryan MØOIC RSARS 3867 |
