At the time of writing the May Anniversary Activity is drawing to a close but is still keeping a few members busy and it is great to know that many of us are enjoying ourselves this way. Yes both MØOIC and GØCPO/A look forward to receiving their rosettes in due course as no doubt do many other RSARS members. On mentioning rosettes and thinking of the required claim to obtain these, give a thought please for our Awards Manager Mike GØSWY whose life will be made much easier if our claims are submitted correctly - if you've not done so already please re-check what is needed, and in what format, before compiling and sending off to Mike.
Reading the email traffic I am aware that one or two of us have managed to work into Cyprus and Canada and some of the luckier ones into Australia and New Zealand. However wheresoever and whomsoever we have worked it has been a pleasure to say 'hello' to members old and new I am sure.
For those lucky enough (skilful enough?) to work new members outside of our EU area and are now awaiting cards an advance view of what they may look like prior to their arrival plus a glance at one still worth chasing over a two month period in Uganda as 5X1NH is shown above. With thanks as always to Dick G3NVK our webmaster for the display, having this excellent facility gives me the opportunity to supply past examples of QSL cards sent to members by Nick G3RWF and Sam G4OHX during some of their relatively recent Overseas adventures. Others are already being prepared for display and I will also watch out for and scan further interesting cards as they arrive in the Bureau, therefore continue to watch this space!
Bureau Activity
Sadly the statistics for this May in comparison with the same month in ealier years continues to make for miserable reading. However on a more positive front I have been receiving stamps and cards from our more recently-joined members and for one of these I despatched an envelope (with Second class Large stamp attached) which contained 19 cards - such a pleasure to do.
Conditions will get better as was proved during the Net controlled by Sam G4OHX on Tuesday 27th May with 25 members on board which can't be bad - plus a couple more members adding to the total just as the Net closed. Even 2E1SIS joined in (so conditions must have been good!) and a few exchanges were completed. The majority of stations were between 57 and 59 into Chilwell for most of the time. We look forward to this situation continuing as it did on Wednesday 28th with many May Activity exchanges being heard over the band, including two more "new ones" for GØCPO/A.
Statistics
Looking ahead I note that over the past three years June has been the most active month for the Bureau in respect of incoming cards. Consequently I look forward to June 2008 and the likelihood of it being a more active month for I do know that quite a few members have managed a few "new ones" (which include 19 by GØCPO/A and several by me in that comment) but as cards are produced by me at the time of the QSOs they are already included in the following figures for May.
This month I have received notification chits from Royal Mail which read eg "Unfortunately we can't deliver your item because there's a fee to pay - Payment due £1.15." I have a feeling that at least one of these (possibly both) will contain QSL cards. Be aware the Bureau is totally self-supporting and to collect these I would have to travel to the main Sorting Office and pay £1.15 out of my own pocket for each of them which I will not do. It is up to the senders to ensure that full postage is paid, not the addressee (me). In three weeks' time Royal Mail will open your envelopes and return them to you when you can send again, hopefully with sufficient postage for the journey this time. So the lesson is: Please ensure sufficient postage is attached prior to despatch of cards to the Bureau
