As this is the last Newsletter from me this year first may I wish all members RSARS, friends, family and any non-members visiting, a very happy Christmas and a healthy 2009. To those still employed - travel with care and best success in what you do. After the Bureau activity created by our travelling members November has ended sadly with quite a dramatic drop to figures shown below, even so you will be pleased to note higher than in November 2007. Cards from Mike M1CCF as the result of operating GB2SOE, GB4WP, GB4MO, GB100TA have been promised to be in the Bureau in time for Christmas, so figures should be up again next month, as will the spirits of avid Award chasers of course. Outgoing cards will also be higher as mentioned below. On 30th October 2008 I gave G3CIO its first airing from its new location at Chilwell, IO92jv, and this has helped to produce a little work for me in producing the cards and as Bureau Manager in their distribution to members. Cards are normally produced within the hour and dropped into the Bureau ready for despatch. I am very pleased to report that total members worked from Chilwell with G3CIO to date stands at 43 with cards already produced and many despatched. As to current and future activity we still have Nick 5X1NH doing his thing in Uganda and I am anticipating a little bit of work as the result; G3CIO cards have already been done, and we do have a member travelling to sunnier climes in February. Rumours abound that Dennis GW4XKE and his team will again be active next year but to date that is it. GD3SIG should also be activated next year so if this is required to complete the set keep an eye on the Members' Activity page on our website. Net controllers continue to do their best and whilst the usual suspects help keep nets in a viable state there is still a general lack of exchanges despite best efforts. Sadly also it will be a while yet before conditions allow greater activity with our overseas members but we live in hope. We look forward to an enjoyable May Anniversary Activity with the subsequent cards in and out as the result. Stations (MØOIC and 2E1SIS) here in Chilwell worked Hal VE2YY from near Montréal (no don't panic - not a member) on 40m at 1017Z plus on 27th November as did a few other RSARS members, so who knows, one day we may have one of our own overseas members join our 40m nets? Statistics for the month of November over the years show results this year up on those of 2007 but down against 2005 and 2006. Outgoing should be ignored for cards sent during November 2006 were as the result of a Bureau clearance an exercise which I will repeat next month:
As happened last year during December I will have a 100% Bureau clearout so if only one card is received that is the reason for it. Although not needed, from experience, it does allow me to check for any that I may have missed. Thankfully no evidence of my failing up to now but as the days move on …………. Hi! The more astute will have noticed that this newsletter is numbered 21. To date, apart from our webmaster and "MERCURY" editor Dick G3NVK, and Ray G3EKL (SK) I have received little comment, adverse or otherwise, nor have I received any request for anything extra. I am willing to consider any requests for additional information, or whatever, and I have no doubt that Dick will be happy to accept, so anything nagging and wanting an answer (no I have one of those hi!) please ask. I think this is the first time that I have sent a card depicting a young naked brunette to our webmaster for publication, but it is in good taste. Not the first card showing a horse and if I mention the card is from our member Gordon MØGKO in Coventry it may provide a clue. The card from dual-located member Ted G4JKQ is included for its clean but comprehensive simplicity. All information required is there even down to the number of the member worked which is appreciated by the Bureau Manager of course. A few more could follow Ted's example with reference to showing this? Another, again a bright clear and simple card, is the one from Mike G4AYO. Again, thanks Mike, he has the number and call sign of member worked but a first noted for me on a card I think is Mike's Worked All Oblasts number. I wonder how he is doing and having worked a few myself … I wonder - should I? Finally, a vertically presented card from Chris GU3TUX on the island of Alderney. I am aware that we do have quite a few members who in addition to RSARS are also members of our sister Societies RNARS and RAFARS and wondered if HMS Alderney rang a bell with anyone? Talking about RNARS, Mike G3VIX has stood down as their QSL Manager and having searched him out via their AGM changes I have found, and been in contact with and recently sent 24 RSARS member cards to Marc GØTOC the new RNARS QSL Manager. That is all for this month and please keep those cards coming. Apropos cards I am just going to have another trawl through RSARS piles belonging to MØOIC, 2E1SIS and GØCPO/A for the latter member F089 is awaiting but two cards before I submit a claim for the 200 Special Award for the Club. (Sufficient members have been worked. Reason for the hunt? It will be good if I found two that I may have missed in other piles, which are also nearly ready for the submission of claims to our Awards Manager GØSWY. I look forward to saying hello during the Pop-In-Pop-Out Net 31st December from 1200Z. First on the blocks this year will be Sam G4OHX until 1400Z then followed by yours truly airing G3CIO F043 for the last time this year. Other controllers Peter GØRGB, Arthur GØKOC, David GM4FOZ and Alan G4BXQ will be doing their best, and with your support, will generate more contacts than last year. May I again wish you and yours A Very Happy Christmas and a healthy, fruitful year 2009 and beyond.
