Issue No. 38 - 1st May 2010

First day of the May Anniversary Activity so the majority of members will have more to do than read my Newsletter, however life goes on in the QSL Bureau at Chilwell.

A reasonable number of cards were sent to members during April, as seen below, and of course quite a few were received from members, obviously clearing the decks ready for our main annual contest. Having been in contact with a couple of our Overseas members, as they thanked me for cards received, I am aware of at least two, and with other emails directed at me on other matters, four Overseas members who will looking for contacts. I just hope that they manage to get MØOIC and G3CIO plus 2E1SIS in their May Activity logbooks.

I mentioned sending out a few cards this month and some of those were to Edna M6ELA, QSL Manager for GB95STD - a second batch. She informs me that cards are being printed at HQ St. Dunstan's at Ovingdean. Up to now I have sent 22 cards to her from RSARS members.

April was a quiet month as far as Special Event stations are concerned but this month, with thanks to Dave G4ETG, G3SIG with a different Affiliated number is being run over the period 15/16th and 17th May to commemorate the starting of G3SIG some 30 years ago. The full background and history to "Quicksilver" is detailed and illustrated on our website at: http://www.rsars.org.uk/quicks.htm

Pat GW3KJW will air GW3SIG for the balance of the month, before and after those dates, in the ordinary course of the peripatetic station for the G3SIG AWARD.

Over the period 8th to 30th May listen out for V21RP, our member Ray 2308 (GØFHK), (a white stick amateur) holidaying and operating whilst visiting the beautiful sunny island of Antigua and Barbuda, West Indies and well worth an Overseas point for your next claim and of course in the May Activity. I am advised that he hopes to operate on 7.028MHz , 10.118MHz and 14.058MHz all +/- QRM . Times given are 2000 to 2300UTC but of course flexibility could be the word as with any member working from an overseas situation.

Now busy taking part in the May Activity I am sure that the last thing members wish to do is read this so that is it for this month, apart from a final mention about the May RSARS Activity. Members will maybe meet each other for the first time and after exchanging details as required, cards may be produced and sent to the RSARS QSL Bureau so PLEASE let the other member know if you have no intention of sending a card or you are not a Bureau user. From experience of post-May Anniversary activity I do know that I will be returning cards marked "Not a bureau user - has no stamps". I am just trying to keep these at a minimum.

In case working so many RSARS members has awakened, or re-awakened your interest in Awards chasing, the RSARS QSL Bureau Handbook can be read on the website at: http://www.rsars.org.uk/QSLBURO.HTM, and downloaded and printed from:
http://www.rsars.org.uk/ELIBRARY/RSARS%20QSL%20BUREAU%20HANDBOOK.pdf

Once again I'd remind you that I am still looking for any interesting QSL card scans and stories in support to add a bit of interest to my Newsletter.

And so it's a "Happy Anniversary (Activity)" from him, and "Good Luck!".
