RSARS QSL BUREAU NEWSLETTER
by MØOIC - QSL Bureau Manager

RSARS QSL BUREAU
6 GREENLAND CRESCENT
CHILWELL
BEESTON
NOTTINGHAM NG9 5LB

Issue No. 4 - 1st July 2007

As was to be expected the Bureau in June was quite active in comparison with the months of April and May. Reasons for this were of course the May Anniversary Contest which I, for one, enjoyed as did many other members I am sure. But of course during June also we had Special Event Stations (SES) thanks to:

  • F265 GB4TCW Dennis GW4XKE and helpers
  • F266 GB4JHF as above
  • F268 GB2FIA Jack G3PWK
  • F269 GB2FR Mike M1CCF and helpers
  • F270 GB6REV Jack G3PWK
  • F271 GB4PB Geoff G4DED and helpers
  • We also had a few of our members holidaying/working overseas but cards for the overseas activities I should imagine will have a greater effect on July figures more so than June, for example Nick 5B/G3RWF is leaving Cyprus as I sit here typing.

Whilst I did manage to work all SES regrettably I did not get three of our travellers in the log - must try harder.

Anyway cards have been coming and going all month thanks to the above activity, and I am sure all members appreciated the hard work carried out by those involved. The above mentioned operations produced Bureau activity for the month of June 2007:

    Cards received = 919 Cards sent = 1274

As a comparison with previous years I find:

    June 2006 received = 883 Sent = 890
    June 2005 received = 1773 Sent = 1903

So whilst this year was better than 2006, I think this was down to member activity more than improved conditions. However it is very nice to see QSL cards in the Bureau going to and from VK, VE and 5B. Plus cards for our traveller in Tobago and Portugal continue to arrive and be despatched.

The one-day postal strike may have had a small effect but this did not slow down cards being sent as it was decided that a total clear-out was due. As a result of this some members will only receive one card or so but which will have been in the Bureau for quite a while.

Of cards sent to members Unfortunately some 53 of these were returned. These returns were caused by the simple fact that these members do not use the Bureau - stamps are not held for them. In an ideal world these members would explain their position relative to QSL cards during the exchange of information but of course it is not a perfect world. We do have a couple of members who do explain their thoughts on QSL cards and we respect them for this of course.

It is hoped that with the list of members using the Bureau now being published it will help alleviate this "return to sender" problem in future buthough not all members have the facilities to enable them to visit the RSARS website. However for those that do - well you are reading this smiley - please visit the documents section of the E-library where this list (in callsign order and member number order) can be downloaded or checked against members worked. This list is updated every month.

This list is updated automatically as stamps are used and replenished. Please be aware if your stamp balance in the Bureau is NIL when this list is produced at end of month you will not appear. This makes sense as it is a list of members with stamps in the Bureau and when I have used your last stamp to send cards to you, you fall off the list - yes a hint!

A busy few days clearing out the Bureau and I would like to thank Linda 2E1SIS, the Bureau assistant publicly for her invaluable help and the forbearance of my occasional tantrum.

I imagine that cards in and (definitely) out will be fewer next month but in the meantime Good Hunting.
