EXERCISE: GB5OM - GB5EG and GB6AFM
I will be running the following Special Event stations (both have RSARS affifliated numbers) later this year.
GB5OM (Operation "Musketeer" - the 1956 Suez Crisis) from 29th October to 12th November 2006 - this being the period that 3 Para Bn Grp were involved.
GB5EG (El Gamil - the airfield onto which 3 Para Bn Grp parachuted on 5th November) from 5th to 6th November 2006.
There will be no operation on 4th November as I will be travelling to Aldershot to attend the Bn Grp dinner. At lunchtime on 5th November I will be attending 3 Tp. 9 Para Sqn RE Dinner so operation will not commence until evening when I return from Aldershot.
Also GB6AFM (Airborne Forces Museum) - the 60th Anniversary on 29th October 2006. This station will operate on 29th and 30th October from my own QTH and I will be sole operator. In the event of pile-ups I will give preference to GB6AFM as GB5OM runs until 12th November as detailed above.
Jack - G3PWK, Ely, Cambridgeshire.
OTHER SPECIFIC ACTIVITY by RSARS MEMBERS |
ON/G3PNF I am going across to Belgium from 12th to 16th June 2006, but only active from
13th to 15th as ON/G3PNF. This a new country for me.
I will have 40m and 20m mobile whip dipoles plus an 80m
whip. Belgium have been granted permission to operate from 7.000 to 7.200
so will try to join the 40m SSB net.
Not Eurocamp this time but a cottage on a SunParks site.

EA1/G3PNF
From 4th to 16th September 2006. With the usual gear, including a 17m whip antenna. Usual RSARS frequencies for CW on 17/20/40m. Dennis will try 20m SSB around 14.275MHz.
SSB on 40m, if possible from the location, will need to be around 7.070MHz because Spain has not allowed her amateurs to transmit above 7.100. This is a new Overseas location for Dennis.

9K2 / MØAYL - Kuwait
From 1st April 2005 for the foreseeable future into 2006
With the help of the Kuwait Amateur Radio Society (KARS) Dave has obtained the relevant licence and will be operating as 9K2 / MØAYL. In addition KARS have also offered him an open invitation to their Society HQ and shack.
He is now available for any skeds. He will be calling
regularly on or around 14.250 for now until he and Sam, G4OHX have experimented
and got a regular ( fairly clear) calling frequency sorted. Timings during
the day will be random, however at night will commence at 1700 UTC (1800hrs UK local
CLOCK-TIME) when possible. If you would like a sked at a particular time
and frequency let Dave know by e-mail and he will endeavour to be there.
LATEST INFO: "the daily sked with Dave, 9K2/M0AYL has been changed to 18.161 at 1700UTC. This is for the SSB sked as no other mode is used by Dave" - from G4OHX.
PSE QSL to G4OHX. For further information please contact G4OHX via email sam4ohx@btopenworld.com

V5/G3RWF - Namibia etc.
From Nick 28 October 2006:
Just back and many thanks to members I worked and those who called and I did not manage to work! The two days in Lesotho this week were very good - strong propagation and also helped by being 7000 feet up a mountainside facing North! As some will appreciate I was working pileups as well as switching to RSARS frequencies - hope that wasn't too frustrating - there were plenty of unanswered CQ RSARS calls so I don't feel too guilty. A couple of members cracked the pileup to work me - congratulations on that as the size and strength of the heap was great! I worked 31 members in the two sessions.
I had a disappointing time in ZS - conditions were poor and the location not ideal for working NNW - and it is 9000 kms away of course. I did however have some excellent sessions on 7MHz working the West Coast of the USA and the Pacific around dawn (but you won't really want to know that!)
I worked 20 members (I think) from Namibia (V5). Conditions were mixed and we moved most days - some places were OK for Amateur Radio, others not. I worked some (non-RSARS) stations on RTTY which I suspect was quite unusual.
Cards will be on the way when printed - about 3 weeks I guess.

5Z4LS - Kenya
Nick informs us: "I arrive early on Wednesday 22nd November and will be QRV as soon as I have got a key and set things up. I could be QRV on the afternoon of 22nd -although I will need some time for antenna work I suspect. I will be giving attention to working RSARS members on 22,23, 24, 27 and 28 November - and will text Bryan MØOIC when I think propagation is helpful. Please look for me on 14, 18 and 21 MHz especially - RSARS CW and SSB frequencies. I also hope to give RTTY and PSK a go. On 26 and 27 November I shall be in the CQWW Contest - but if you hear me I will do the RSARS exchange on request. Outside the CQWW Contest I will probably concentrate on 18 and 10 MHz as they are bands where people need 5Z4.
The only purpose of my visit is amateur radio - so I will be spending quite a lot of time on the air."

SOME SOCIETY MEMBERS' REGULAR ACTIVITY |
KA3CSR
Bob endeavours to check 21056kHz most days around 1300Z for likely RSARS CW contacts.
|
VA3TRM
Terry usually checks 21170kHz and 21056kHz every Thursday at 1300Z for possible RSARS contacts but recently (October 2006) he has been active on most Thursdays around 14210kHz to 14215kHz at 1230Z to 1400Z and 1500Z to 1600Z.
His website is at http://va3trm.ve3kbr.com/
Terry also uses VA3SIG and VE3RCS |
I2VRF
Giancarlo is active again in spite of his severe illness - he tells us "I am invalid because of a rare muscle disease (without therapy) and I pass my "long" days on the bed but I operate on CW from the bed with a long wire for the key or the paddles (SSB is too difficult for the adjustements required and my wife is a chemist, not a radio amateur). I am QRV each day on 14056-14058 KHz or 10118-10123 KHz from 8 to 10 UTC or from 13 to 15 UTC"
You can contact him by e-mail at giancarlo.vaia@tin.it

ZC4LI (ex 5B4AHA and other calls)
Steve says that he always tries to be on the WARC bands on weekday afternoons, and spends most of the weekends doing contests. He much prefers CW, RTTY and a bit of PSK. Please note he only QSL’s direct.

KD5QEM
Geoff reminds us that there is an active member in Arizona, previouly known as G4DQB, (RSARS 1233) but he now goes by the call KD5QEM. By rights he should have a 7 call but he is not going to bore us with those details, suffice to say he moved from Market Bosworth, Leicestershire in October 2005 and is now residing in sunny AZ just 30 miles from the Grand Canyon. Geoff continues: "I can be found on 17m SSB most days between 1300 and 1330 UTC if anyone needs Arizona and wants to arrange a sked my details are correct on QRZ.com. Once we have our new business sorted and the HF mobile set up there is a possibility I will be able to go up to the FOUR CORNERS area of Arizona where the borders of Colorado, Utah and New Mexico all meet at one spot which gives the chance to offer a contact with all 4 States in as many minutes. Could be fun once the sunspots start increasing as forecast."
Latest news (9 May) is that "I'm having a play at PSK31 but am just setting up to receive at present but it's surprising to copy signals from the UK on 14.070 when the phone end is deader than dead. I only need a few bits to make up the transmit part of the interface but my junk box didn't make the cut when we were deciding what to bring & what to chuck so I've got 30 yrs of hoarding to catch up on !!!"
LATEST (GOOD) NEWS: "last Sat (8 July) yours truly and Jean my beloved took an exam session at our local hamfest & hey presto! I'm now an Extra Class & Jean is a Technician !!! We're waiting for the wheels to grind at the FCC so should have shiny new 7 calls in the next few days "
AND THE GREAT NEWS (17th July) is that Geoff has received his new callsign of AD7JC and has worked VE7VF and GM3KHH. Additionally Geoff's wife has been allocated the callsign KE7INJ.
For further information AND SKEDS contact Geoff by e-mail Geoffkd5qem@aol.com |
