SPECIAL EVENT STATIONS

GB1ØØTA
The Amateur Radio station with the Special Call of GB100TA (RSARS Affiliated) will be active for a further 7 days w.e.f. the undermentioned activity and will be making worldwide contacts on HF and if there are enough operators available, VHF. Eyeball contacts will be most welcome and if you bring your licence with you we will be pleased to enroll you as a club member and allow operation of the station.
This is in conjunction with and part of Members of the VINTAGE OPERATING GROUP (MØVOG) who regularly operate GB2RA from within the Royal Artillery Museum at the former Woolwich Arsenal putting on a Special Event station during the Autumn School holidays under the banner of TA100 celebrating the 100th year of the TA - the UK reserve Army. There is a special day event on 25th October when bands, vehicles and soldiers will be parading. Additional details may be found on the RAM website http://www.firepower.org.uk
An excellent café is available on site and the Museum of Artillery is well worth a browse. Currently there is a special exhibition of 250 special artefacts not normal seen by the public. Why? Because it is 250 years since the RA was formed. Free parking within a few yards and disabled parking even closer. Buses pass by in Plumstead Road. British Rail Station has an excellent service from London Bridge, Charing Cross and Cannon Street stations direct and from Victoria with one change. DON'T TRY TO USE WOOLWICH NORTH - IT'S CLOSED!
See you there - M1CCF & G4FAA

GB4LRG and GB2ASS
The above Special Event stations (both with RSARS Affiliated numbers) will be activated as GB4LRG (Long Range Desert Group) and GB2ASS (Air Support Signals) from the Training Wing at 21 Signal Regiment (Air Support) Azimghur Barracks, Colerne Wiltshire. SN14 8QY from 2nd to 8th June 2008 inclusive.
It is expected the setting-up period will be on the Monday 2nd June 2008 with three to four stations that will be in operation singly or at the same time subject to operational conditions and the team members available - some have a long distance to travel. The last day is expected to be Sunday 8th June 2008 with close down about noon. The team will use modes SSB and CW on the LF and HF bands and perhaps RTTY and FM on 2m and other modes if possible to be advised at the time.
We are guests at an operational unit (which has personnel deployed on "active service" overseas) by permission of the CO Lt-Col D A Craft and WO1 (RSM) S Mayell. The operating periods in the main will be day and evening subject to sociable hours.
Once again a very special QSL card will be available and it will sent to all stations recorded in the log books and SWL's unless advised at the time of contact N/C (No Card). The QSL routes are via RSGB, RSARS, RAFARS, RNARS Bureax or direct QSLs with SSAE only.

5Z4/G4OHX
I am off to Kenya on 6th October and am hoping to be QRV on 7th from near Mombasa and will be there for 2 weeks. I will have 2 RSARS numbers for the taking - my own number [1939] and also the Affiliated Number that goes with the N2DAN Key Award.
E-mail Sam at: samg4ohx@talktalk.net

EA5/G3PNF
We are off via the Channel tunnel on Thursday 28th August 2008, then overnight at Bethune (only 50 miles from Calais). (Makes a nice easy journey to the tunnel on the way home!).
Next day 450 miles down to Chanas, south of Lyon, then on Saturday 30th another 450 odd miles to the EA5 location from where I hope to be on the air from 31st August to 18th September. Normal operating frequencies.
Reverse journey commencing on the 20th to Chanas, 21st to Bethune and home on the 22nd

5X1NH
Nick (G3RWF) was QRV again from Saturday 23rd February 2008 to Saturday 22nd March 2008. QTH (usually) Fort Portal in Western Uganda but also in RSGB Commonwealth Contest from Kampala. He is now back home and tells us:-
"Home safely today with about 7100 QSOs in the log. A mountain of QSL cards waiting and will give RSARS cards priority when I get the logs loaded tomorrow. Thanks for all the support - sorry so little SSB but I rarely heard signals strong enough for SSB (got about 400 SSB QSOs in total). Also the problems of static and thunder/lightning meant that I often had to close about 1500Z each day seemed to end with a storm once the rains began."

5X1NH - Uganda
Nick advised us to expect upcoming operation to be from 26th November 2008 to 11th December 2008.
He achieved the exercise in part but on 3rd December informed us "Sorry to say I am back in the UK - had to return suddenly for family reasons. So no point in looking for 5X1NH I regret to say." You can email Nick at nick@henwood.demon.co.uk

G3LPC
Some of you may remember G3LPC which was the Royal Signals Club Station at Bampton in the 1960's. We earned our laurels back then by being a big light in RTTY (the hard way!).
I held this licence on behalf of the Club which was also well-known for a week-long stay on Lundy Island as GB3LPC.
I can now announce that together with Roger, GØAOZ and Chris G1YGY, I have resurrected the Club within 200 yards of the old site. OFCOM have been exceptionally helpful in re-issuing the call to me and the station will be known as WEALD AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY (WARS).
We are already up and running on Packet and connected to the network via GB7BA which I also run for HARWELL AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY (HARS).
We have started work getting wire into the sky by fixing a pulley and rope at the top of our 114ft high tower. We have an FT857 as the main rig with an FT2100 linear. Currently the antenna in use is 60 odd feet of wire just dropped from the tower to the fibre glass 9ft x 7ft shack. The whole is enclosed in an 8ft high chain fence topped with barbed wire.

G3LPC BAMPTON MAST
So here we go folks..I have to find out if the Club ever had an Affiliated number... I don't think it had, so if you contact us you'll have to be satisfied with mine (G3LQC) until we sort that out..........

5B/G3RWF
Off to 5B again on 8th May for two weeks in Pissouri. Probably worked the majority of active members now but will be looking on RSARS frequencies and very much hope to make some contacts. 73 Nick G3RWF.
Latest News (6th May 2008): "Just a reminder that I am going to Cyprus for two weeks from this Thursday (8th). I should be QRV from Friday and looking especially on 14056 and 7027 for CW QSOs in the first instance but I have spent ages seeking to ensure that I have a good SSB signal so I will QSY to that mode when conditions allow (they seem awful at present). Will also have PSK/RTTY.
Happy to work for May Anniversary points - I will also take a look on 17m from time to time on the RSARS
" QRG.

EI/G3PNF
I am going on holiday to Ireland, and will be signing EI/G3PNF.
Sailing from Pembroke on Friday 16th May 2008. Overnight stop in Rosslare, then motor up to Galway on Saturday.
I expect to be operating from Sunday 18th May 2008 until and including Friday 23rd May. I have aerials for 20m, 40m and 80m and will operate on RSARS CW frequencies (+ or -). I spoke to David on the 40m Net on 14th May and he said John, EI5JN has been joining the Net, so 40m SSB is possible also 8om SSB.

5X1NH once again
25th June 2008 for two whole months!
Nick (G3RWF) tells us: "I am returning to Uganda! Same arrangements as previously and will again be in Fort Portal in the extreme west of the country. I hope to work some more members - fewer no doubt in August when my wife is joining me and we are going to do some sightseeing."
Email Nick at: nick@henwood.demon.co.uk

CT/G4OHX
9th to 19th June 2008.
"Most of the time I will be on CW but I will take a shufti at the SSB portion of the dial. If any member would like a sked then let me know and I will do my best to oblige."
Email Sam at: samg4ohx@talktalk.net

F/G3PNF
I will be operating from France from 13th to 26th June. Usual RSARS frequencies for CW on 20, 40 and 80 metres. I will try SSB on 80, around 7040 on 40 and around 14.280 on 20 metres. Unless anyone knows different I do not believe the French amateurs can use the band above 7.100 kHz.
(I will also be operating from EA5 in September. Although I have operated many times from EA5 in the past, it was then classed the same as UK for RSARS award purposes. Now of course it is classed as overseas so it will be a new country for me)

TF/G3YSK
14th – 21st June 2008
John will be operating from the main island (EU-021) from various locations until 20th and 21st when he will be on another island, same call of course, but EU-071. Frequencies expected to be used: 14.056MHz or 10.123MHz.
So if you chase islands in addition to RSARS points a couple of guaranteed IOTA cards as well.

SOME SOCIETY MEMBERS' REGULAR ACTIVITY

VK6PG
Please note that I have the N2DAN Key Award for the next year. This means that if you work me you'll earn TWO extra points towards your RSARS Awards. I regularly listen on 14.056 short and long paths on CW hunting for ANY UK RSARS Members. During the 2007 May Activity, with a whole month of operating, I managed THREE RSARS contacts. So don't hold your breath,
Turn your beams on VK6, listen on 14.056MHz from around 0600-0800 long path, or about 1400Z short path for 15 minutes. I'm trying to find the best time to hook the UK so please join in the fun . Dig deep in the noise floor, keep the RF gain control low enough to prevent the AGC from operating, use your DSP options with a bandwidth of around 180Hz. You will be rewarded with TWO juicy RSARS points for your efforts.
Happy Hunting folks and all the very best from Perth, Western Australia.

VA3TRM
Terry usually checks 21170kHz and 21056kHz every Thursday at 1300Z for possible RSARS contacts but recently (November 2007) has said he will also be on 14210kHz or 14142kHz [plus/minus QRM] on Thursdays from about 1330Z for an hour. Good hunting and don't forget his website is at http://va3trm.ve3kbr.com/
Terry also uses VA3SIG and VE3RCS
