SOUTHERN AREA RALLIES REPRESENTATION

There has been much activity this summer and the Society stand has been in evidence in Southern England quite regularly.

  • First we went to Firepower, the Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich, South East London - you may remember the former Arsenal entrance, well it's still there but doesn't go anywhere. Firepower is full of guns and a small radio display which we supplemented for a few weeks. We also spent an exciting weekend putting GB2FR on the air, unfortunately with rather more modern amateur gear than displayed from the Army's yesteryear! (A13/A14/C11 and the19 Sets) The 22 Set is currently under renovation - working but not yet quite ready.
  • Next the BIG SHOW at The Hop Farm, Paddock Wood - Yes! The War and Peace Show claimed our attention for six days in July and you will see we had a good display headed up by three Champs and a much more modern Landrover. A great deal of serious interest, membership forms handed out - we need some interesting flyers for this show in future! My goodness! - the number of people who come up and say they did this and that in "the war" (whichever one that was, I am not sure I remember). Signalling stories abound and it is all well worthwhile.
  • Then came a visit to Pirbright - now you will remember that, wont you? Presently it's undergoing yet another rebuild but some things never change. We had a small display for the families day on a VERY hot summer day in July. Generated a lot of interest amongst the trainees - interestingly only amongst the male ones, now why?
  • Finally Flight Refuelling where we have not been seen for a while, I understand. The highest number of visitors booked in, since I took the stand over - 26, now that isn't bad. It was good to see you all. Business was brisk, the interest level was high.
All being well we shall be at these shows again in 2008 along with the one at Horndean, Nr. Portsmouth over the May Bank Holiday - sorry I could not make it this year but I was touring British Army German Barracks and up the Harz to The Broken, along with 10 other Champs in May!

Phew! Off to Military Odyssey at Detling Nr. Maidstone - See you there?

Please let me know if there is a show you would like me to be at later this year or in 2008.
